Driving behaviour change in Lebanon through smart, shareable design

To support Lebanon’s ongoing reforms in municipal solid waste management, NIRASdelivered a powerful communications campaign designed to build citizen awareness and local government engagement.

Working closely with the EU-funded Waste Governance Technical Assistance project, our communications specialists transformed complex messages into clear, impactful visuals — from a series of infographics to social media-ready artwork designed specifically for WhatsApp sharing. Every piece was translated into Arabic to reach audiences across the country.

We also developed a practical, visually engaging monthly calendar for municipal authorities — with QR codes linking to short educational content including videos. This light, easily distributed digital solution helped municipalities share waste-sorting tips directly with their constituents while reducing printing waste.

With cohesive storytelling and strong visual identity, the campaign supported behaviour change efforts where it matters most: in households and communities across Lebanon. By turning insights into accessible designs and tools, NIRAS helped spark conversations, build acceptance for reforms, and put better waste governance into everyday practice.

Empowering budgets, enabling equality

As part of a major Sida-funded initiative to integrate gender equality into Ukraine’s public finance system, NIRAS supported government partners in advancing gender-responsive budgeting (GRB) across national, regional, and local levels.

To capture and communicate the results of this transformative work, in addition to fully-illustrative Final Report, our communications team produced a premium Results & Reflections coffee-table book — blending compelling visuals, accessible narrative, and powerful beneficiary testimonials to highlight tangible change at the institutional, community and individual level.

We also developed a high-quality impact video to further amplify the project’s achievements. Designed for use across events and digital platforms, the video distills complex reform processes into a clear, engaging story that resonates with diverse audiences.

By combining strategic storytelling with strong visual design, we helped ensure that the impact of GRB in Ukraine is not only measured — but seen, understood, and shared.

Promoting independent media: stories, standards and change documents

The Sida-funded International Training Programme (ITP) Media Development in a Democratic Framework programme set out to strengthen independent news media by improving legal frameworks, advancing self-regulation, and empowering media professionals to drive positive change in their own organisations. Over multiple years and cohorts, the project supported journalists and media actors across the globe in enhancing credibility, professionalism, and trust in the media sector.

To showcase this progress and ensure the programme’s learning continues well beyond its final year, NIRAS delivered a suite of high-value communications products. We produced an illustrated reference book — Legal Frameworks & Professional Standards for Independent News Media — as well as a practical How to Make Change Happen guide, both used widely for teaching, peer learning, and dissemination by the client and our partners.

Our team also documented success stories through engaging news features, spotlighting participant achievements and drawing connections with other ITPs NIRAS has implemented. Complementing the written storytelling, we developed a series of low-cost videos that captured participants’ voices and shared their change journeys in an accessible and authentic way.

To preserve and present the programme’s extensive knowledge outputs, we wrapped the final deliverables — publications, reports, and media assets — into a dedicated online project page that continues to serve as a valuable repository for media development professionals worldwide.

Through strategic storytelling and thoughtful design, we helped ensure that ITP Media’s impact is not only recorded, but shared — supporting the ongoing evolution of independent journalism and democratic public dialogue.

How strong visuals and stories amplified WASH results

In drought-prone Ethiopia, the Strengthening Climate Resilience Systems in Water Sanitation Hygiene (SCRS) WaSH technical assistance project helped strengthen the resilience of safe water supply systems across twelve regions by supporting the national One WaSH programme and bolstering climate-smart delivery systems.

To amplify the project’s impact and learning, our team produced a suite of high-value communications assets. We authored multiple learning papers and created a visually rich summary of key outcomes that distils the evidence into accessible formats.

We also captured real-world change through compelling “stories from the field” featuring communities transformed by the project. Complementing these, we developed a low-cost video and maintained consistent LinkedIn posting in partnership with our client, ensuring the project’s insights and achievements reached a broad audience.

By weaving rigorous analysis with evocative storytelling and smart design, we helped translate technical reform into accessible narratives — supporting both sector-wide knowledge sharing and meaningful public engagement

Driving engagement for gender-inclusive finance through digital outreach

The Global Gender-Smart Fund (GGSF) initiative, led by Women’s World Banking with NIRAS as a key technical assistance partner, works to reduce the persistent gender gap in access to finance and strengthen financial inclusion for women worldwide. In a recent initiative, the project team developed a series of five webinars on gender-inclusive finance running over a six-month period.

To boost participation and ensure learnings reached a wide audience, our communications team designed and delivered a targeted promotional campaign for the webinars. We developed compelling social-media assets and messaging and used LinkedIn advertising to maximise visibility and drive registrations from priority stakeholder groups.

Through strategic digital outreach and audience-focused design, we helped elevate the conversation around women’s financial empowerment and expand the reach of this important knowledge-sharing effort.

Elevating evidence and amplifying impact for smallholder agribusiness

As part of the FCDO-funded Commercial Agriculture for Smallholders and Agribusiness (CASA) programme, NIRAS plays a central role in generating evidence, organising knowledge, and communicating insights globally to inform investment in inclusive agribusiness. Our communications team has strengthened this effort by developing and implementing a LinkedIn content strategy that enhances the programme’s visibility among investors, agribusiness leaders, and supporting agencies. We trained national communications teams across key markets on content planning, audience engagement, and performance measurement, supported by practical templates to streamline ongoing contributions. To foster internal alignment and knowledge flow, we designed and distributed a quarterly results newsletter. We have also provided graphic design support for an extensive suite of learning papers and briefs, presenting complex market intelligence in accessible formats. Finally, we contributed to the creation of a long-term knowledge-hosting solution to ensure CASA’s influential outputs remain visible and valuable well beyond the programme’s lifetime — advancing evidence-based learning for more productive and profitable smallholder agriculture.

Making mid-term insight matter: visualising waste management progress in the Pacific

As part of the PACWASTE Plus initiative—which assessed and strengthened waste-management interventions across Pacific Island countries—NIRAS undertook the mid-term evaluation, and our communications team translated the findings into accessible visuals and formats. We produced the evaluation brief in English, Tetum and French to ensure reach among diverse stakeholders. We also designed 15 country info-sheets, each tailored to highlight project focus, local actors, good practices, major achievements, lessons learned and future steps. To further amplify the work, our team supported the production of the project video—providing scriptwriting, editing and animated graphics to bring the story to life.

By combining rigorous evaluation with strategic design and multimedia storytelling, we helped ensure that PACWASTE Plus’ insights are clear, engaging and ready to inform regional waste-management decision-making.

Storytelling that sustains impact: sharing lessons from a South Sudanese water project

As part of a Dutch-funded programme delivering clean drinking water and improved sanitation for more than 330,000 people in South Sudan, NIRAS not only strengthened service delivery — we ensured the learning and successes were captured and shared long after the project closed. Our communications team conducted a one-week field mission to interview community members, local leaders and implementation partners, gathering authentic voices and insights from across the programme areas. We produced a suite of success-factor briefs covering themes such as institutional development, private-sector support, water system sustainability, water for production, livestock feedlots, youth activation and community water management committees.

To broaden accessibility and engagement, we developed a project brochure spotlighting key lessons and wrote personal stories — including profiles of a handpump mechanic and a progressive farmer —that revealed the human impact behind the infrastructure. We attended the project’s closing ceremony to capture its legacy, conducting video interviews and taking photos used across communications products. Our article on the transformative results of hands-on agribusiness support was reprinted in full in a national newspaper, extending reach to local audiences. We also profiled the team leader and his remarkable influence in the sector. Through multiple blogs and consistent LinkedIn storytelling — continued even eight years after completion — we have helped ensure that the project’s innovations, results and sustainability remain visible and influential for sector peers worldwide.
